The fruitful relationship between the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and star conductor Roderick Cox continues.
György Ligeti’s Concert Românesc portrays the bustle of a village fete. A curious alliance of folk dances and the avant-garde produces a swirling kaleidoscope of sound.
Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony is a personal account of the twists and turns of an unpredictable life and the smallness of mankind. We have no detailed information about the symphony’s origins, but the surge from despair towards triumph and extra-musical clues evoke the power of fate, which finally quells the composer’s courageous resistance.
Paula Ernesaks, who grew up and studied in Finland, has been a member of the Dream Team for hornists, the legendary Berliner Philharmoniker, since 2021. Estonian-born Ernesaks here makes her debut with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra as soloist in the Mozart’s Third Horn Concerto.
