The golden age of Finnish pop music is brought back to life in a unique concert experience: the unforgettable songs of Laila Kinnunen and Olavi Virta now receive magnificent new interpretations by a large symphony orchestra.
The programme features Kinnunen and Virta’s most iconic classics as well as lesser-known gems. Conductor Ako Kiiski’s brand-new arrangements transcend nostalgia: the orchestra adds a sparkling layer of emotion and reminiscence to the songs.
The two soloists in the concert are renowned for their versatility: like Virta, opera baritone Aarne Pelkonen has built his reputation on his charismatic voice, which slips seamlessly from one style to another. Laila Kinnunen’s golden sound, meanwhile, is brought to life by the nightingale of Finnish jazz, Johanna Iivanainen, known for her inimitable sense of swing.
