There is a small cottage in the middle of the forest and a clearing where animals play in the shelter. One day, despite his grandfather’s warnings, the reckless Peter goes out into the meadow and the gate to the clearing is left open. Soon a duck waddles into a pond, a bird flies into the woods and a cat takes refuge on the branch of a tree. The wolf lurking in the woods has caught the scent and is preparing to attack Peter and the animals. Now good advice is precious.
Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf is an exciting and educational musical fairy tale for the whole family, with a plot driven both by the narrator and the distinctive sounds of the instruments. The shrewd hero, Peter, is represented by the strings; a bird flutters on the flute, a cat meows on the clarinet, a duck waddles on the oboe, the grandfather gives his orders on the bassoon and the wolf growls on the horns. Peter and the Wolf has remained a favourite of children and adults for generations – for good reasons.
