Tabita Berglund, a conductor with a worldwide career, has forged a special bond with Lahti through her performances of the great works of late Romanticism. Now this Norwegian artist reveals her sensitivity by dedicating an entire concert to the music of Mozart.
In the music capital of the world composers were ten a penny, and none of them could make a living from their craft. The opera Don Giovanni was thus premiered in Prague, where Mozart made his breakthrough overnight. The story of the G minor symphony’s origins is disputed; Mozart may never have heard it performed. If so, it would be the greatest work he ever composed and then immediately put away in his desk drawer.
In his own time, Mozart was best-known for his piano concertos, in which he himself was a brilliant soloist. The bright and carefree Piano Concerto in C major is famous for its slow movement, which is familiar from the soundtrack of the film Elvira Madigan. Christian Ihle Hadland, known for his velvety touch, is one of the finest Mozart interpreters of our time. His exceptional pianism can now finally be heard in Lahti.
