The young Swedish prodigy Daniel Lozakovich is one of the most exciting names in the violin world. He makes his Lahti debut with Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, one of the most spectacular and entertaining of all Romantic works with a solo instrument. It is also Lozakovich’s showpiece: a critic from the prestigious Gramophone magazine chose Lozakovich’s recording as his favourite among dozens of versions.
The Lahti Symphony Orchestra and Hannu Linnu’s deep immersion in the symphonies of Einojuhani Rautavaara continues with the Sixth Symphony. A portrayal of the life of painter Vincent van Gogh, based on themes from Rautavaara’s opera Vincent, it radiates the mysticism and imaginative power familiar from his paintings. The journey into the artist’s story takes us to the swirling of The Starry Night, to a wheatfield with crows and finally to the asylum in Saint-Rémy.
