The British conductor Andrew Manze’s reputation as a lover and connoisseur of Jean Sibelius’s music is indisputable. At the Sibelius Hall he will conduct the Fifth Symphony with its ‘swan hymn’ finale, a unique work that Sibelius spent more than five years refining. Ralph Vaughan Williams’s classic Serenade to Music, very rarely heard in Finland, receives an authentic English interpretation under Manze’s baton.
Ludwig van Beethoven’s Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano is a good-natured adventure for three soloists and a one-off in the history of music. In Lahti, the Triple Concerto will be performed by Christel Lee, winner of the Jean Sibelius Violin Competition, Denis Kozukhin, winner of the Queen Elisabeth Piano Competition, and Finnish star cellist Jonathan Roozeman, finalist in the Tchaikovsky Competition.
