Lahti Symphony Orchestra debuting in Moscow
The Lahti Symphony Orchestra has been invited to give a concert at the Rostropovitš Festival to be held in Moscow on Sunday 29 March 2020. The concert will be led by the principal conductor of the orchestra Dima Slobodeniouk and featured by the Norwegian top cellist, Grammy winner Truls Mørk as a soloist.
The programme of the concert, which will be held in one of Moscow’s most famous concert halls, the great hall of the Conservatory, includes the symphonic poem En Saga by Jean Sibelius, Cello Concerto by Edward Elgar, and Symphony No. 5 of Sibelius. Although the Lahti Symphony Orchestra has regularly visited St. Petersburg since the 1990’s, the upcoming visit to Moscow will be the first one.
Founded in 2010, the international music festival named after the legendary Russian cellist and conductor Mstislav Rostropovitš (1927–2007) will, in the spring of 2020, take place in Moscow for the 11th time. The artistic director of the festival is the cellist’s daughter Olga Rostropovitš. The Lahti Symphony Orchestra is the first Finnish orchestra to visit the festival.
The Lahti Symphony Orchestra, although aiming for carbon neutrality in their operations, is forced to fly to Moscow for scheduling reasons, and is prepared to compensate for the emissions from the flights in their travel budget.
