Sinfonia Lahti on Tour
The Lahti Symphony Orchestra will visit Seoul, Stockholm and Nanjing this autumn.
Because of the China trip, the orchestra has invited the Lohja City Orchestra to give the Christmas concert in Lahti.
The Lahti Symphony Orchestra will visit Seoul, Stockholm and Nanjing this autumn. Under its principal conductor Dima Slobodeniouk the orchestra will give the opening concert of the Seoul International Music Festival at the Seoul Arts Center on Tuesday 24 October. The programme will be the Festival Overture by the Korean composer Sirin Nah, Dmitri Shostakovich’s First Cello Concerto (soloist: Arto Noras) and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony. At the second concert, on 25 October, Slobodeniouk will conduct the orchestra in Jean Sibelius’s Finlandia, Violin Concerto (soloist: Elina Vähälä) and Lemminkäinen. This will be the Lahti Symphony Orchestra’s first visit to South Korea.
At the end of November the orchestra is heading for Stockholm to play at the Stockholm Concert Hall on Saturday 25 November, conducted by Dima Slobodeniouk. On the programme is Hava by Lotta Wennäkoski, Dmitri Shostakovich’s Second Violin Concerto (with the Latvian Baiba Skride as soloist) and Jean Sibelius’s Fifth Symphony.
In December the Lahti Symphony Orchestra will visit Nanjing, China, with its conductor emeritus, Okko Kamu. The trip coincides with the opening ceremonies for the city’s new concert hall, the Jiangsu Grand Theater, and the programme of our three orchestral concerts (9, 10 and 12 December) consists of music by Jean Sibelius. At two concerts Elina Vähälä will be the soloist in Sibelius’s Violin Concerto. The tour programme also includes chamber concerts, and a string quartet drawn from the orchestra will perform works by Sibelius and Ernst Mielck.
The Lohja City Orchestra will deputize for the Lahti Symphony Orchestra at the Christmas Concert on 13 December 2017
Because of its December trip to China, the Lahti Symphony Orchestra has invited the Lohja City Orchestra to participate in its concert series by giving the Christmas concert ‘Let Christmas Come’ on Wednesday 13 December 2017 at the Sibelius Hall. The concert, conducted by Esa Heikkilä, also features the Laulupuu Choir made up of pupils from Lahti’s music classes, and the programme includes many atmospheric Christmas favourites such as Sleigh Ride, The Sparrow on Christmas Morning and Give Me No Splendour.
